Rebecca Funeral

Created by glyn 11 years ago
A service to mark the death and celebrate the life of Rebecca ( who had latterly found a robust Christian faith) was held at St Giles, Horsted Keynes on Tuesday, 16th April, 2013. Afterwards she was interred in the graveyard of this lovely church, a place of worship in the parish for more than nine hundred years. More than 100 neighbours, family and friends were there. Processional sentences Hymn Lead us, heavenly Father, lead us Opening Prayer ending with this verse and response: Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord. And let light perpetual shine upon her. Welcome The Rector If I Should Go Joyce Grenfell Read by Ellen Holroyd If I should go before the rest of you Break not a flower nor inscribe a stone Nor when I'm gone speak in a Sunday voice But be the usual selves that I have known Weep if you must Parting is hell But life goes on So sing as well. Tributes Geoff Saltmarsh Christopher Genin 1 Corinthians 13:4 –13 Read by David Coupe Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonour others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. Hymn Abide With Me Address Fr John Twisleton Silence Prayers using this verse and response: Lord in your mercy hear our prayer. Commendation (Sung to Morning has broken) Christ be beside me, Christ be before me, Christ be behind me, King of my heart. Christ be within me, Christ be below me, Christ be above me, never to part. Christ on my right hand, Christ on my left hand, Christ all around me, shield in the strife. Christ in my sleeping, Christ in my sitting, Christ in my rising, light of my heart God our creator and redeemer, by your power Christ conquered death and entered into glory. Confident of his victory and claiming his promises we entrust Rebecca to your mercy in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who died and is alive and reigns with you now and for ever. Amen. Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord. And let light perpetual shine upon her. Hymn O God, our help in ages past Recessional sentences Committal & blessing at the graveside
